Job summary

Itron is seeking a Firmware Engineer Intern to join our Product Development team in West Union, South Carolina, beginning in January 2027. The role focuses on embedded Linux firmware for Itron electric meters, with opportunities to work on testing, automation, and test-data analysis.

The internship provides hands-on experience under guidance of engineers and technicians, with exposure to AI-related initiatives and cross-functional collaboration in a safety-sensitive environment.

Qualifications

• Programming experience with object-oriented languages.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Pursuing a technical degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Support firmware and software development activities for embedded devices with focus on quality and reliability.
• Assist with requirements gathering, development planning, coding, testing and documentation.
• Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot firmware and software components.
• Participate in designing and validating firmware solutions and applying engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
• Assist in test plans, execution, analysis and reporting of findings.
