Job summary

Crane Company seeks an Electronics Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for industrial automation products. You will work across hardware, software, manufacturing, and product teams throughout the lifecycle, including security and certification considerations.

The role focuses on ARM Cortex-M based systems, drivers, RTOS/embedded Linux, and modern development practices to ensure reliable, safe, and scalable solutions in hazardous and non-hazardous environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, CS, Embedded Systems Engineering, or related field.
• 1–3 years of experience developing embedded firmware or software.
• Experience programming in C and/or C++.
• Experience with embedded systems and microcontroller-based products.
• Exposure to serial interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, RS-232.
• Experience troubleshooting hardware and firmware integration issues.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware for MCU/MPU-based products.
• Develop software applications and embedded solutions using C, C++, Python, Bash.
• Implement device drivers, communication protocols, bootloaders, and real-time control algorithms.
• Develop for RTOS and embedded Linux (FreeRTOS, ThreadX, Linux).
• Optimize firmware for performance, memory, power, reliability, and maintainability.
• Support secure boot, secure firmware updates, OTA update mechanisms, and product cybersecurity initiatives.
• Configure, program, and troubleshoot ARM Cortex-M based embedded systems.
• Perform hardware bring-up, firmware integration, debugging, and validation of new designs.
• Interface firmware with sensors, actuators, displays, and peripherals.
• Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, JTAG to evaluate performance and diagnose issues.
• Support root cause investigations and corrective actions.
