Job summary

CFD Research Corporation in Dayton, OH is seeking a highly capable Firmware Engineer with strong embedded firmware, microcontroller and FPGA design expertise to develop robust aerospace-grade embedded systems.

You will work closely with Embedded Hardware Design Engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver secure, reliable electronics for mission-critical applications, including hands-on debugging and verification in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
• Strong embedded C/C++ firmware experience on MCUs/embedded CPUs.
• Experience with RTOS, bare-metal, interrupts, and power-managed firmware.
• Knowledge of digital interfaces and serial protocols.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and test embedded firmware in C/C++, including drivers and HAL.
• Develop FPGA logic (VHDL/Verilog) for DSP, interfaces, or high-speed control.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to define system architecture and interfaces.
• Implement protocols: SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, Modbus, and more.
• Support schematic reviews and PCB layout input for signal integrity and EMI/ESD.
• Create test firmware, scripts, and automated tests for prototype to production.
