Job summary

CFD Research seeks a Firmware Engineer with strong embedded firmware development, FPGA experience, and a passion for robust, mission-critical aerospace and defense electronics. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable embedded systems for challenging environments.

The role emphasizes C/C++, RTOS, hardware-software integration, and rigorous testing in a fast-paced R&D setting.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• Strong proficiency in embedded firmware development in C/C++ for microcontrollers and embedded processors.
• Experience with RTOS based development, bare metal systems, interrupt handling, timing critical code, and power managed firmware.
• Understanding of digital interfaces and embedded system architectures.
• Familiarity with lab equipment: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, multimeters, power supplies.
• Ability to read schematics and understand hardware-software interactions at the board level.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and test embedded firmware in C/C++, including drivers and HAL layers.
• Develop FPGA logic (VHDL or Verilog) for DSP and interfaces.
• Collaborate with Hardware Engineers to define system architecture and integration.
• Implement and support communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, Modbus).
• Support schematic reviews and PCB layout input for signals, EMI/ESD mitigation.
• Perform system-level testing using lab equipment; develop test firmware and automation.
• Create technical documentation and test procedures per AS9100 quality standards.
• Support qualification to AS9100, MIL-STD 461/810, and related specs.
