Job summary

Emerson is seeking a student-coop to join our embedded firmware team in the United States. You will contribute to firmware development tooling, CI workflows, and build automation while collaborating with cross-functional engineers on next-generation actuator platforms.

This co-op program emphasizes hands-on experience with C/C++, version control, debugging tools, and RTOS concepts, while developing documentation and development workflows.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related engineering discipline
  • Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals and problem-solving
  • Experience or coursework in embedded systems development
  • Familiarity with C/C++ programming
  • Exposure to software development processes, version control, and debugging tools
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, schematics, and data sheets
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Firmware Development Tools & Infrastructure (70%)
  • Develop and enhance firmware build automation and toolchains
  • Create CI workflows and automated testing solutions
  • Integrate code quality, security, and static analysis tools

  • Document and standardize development workflows
Embedded Firmware Implementation (30%)
  • Develop firmware for next-generation actuator platforms
  • Assist with BSP, driver, and application software development
  • Debug firmware and support hardware bring‑up activities
  • Participate in product validation and testing
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams
