Job summary

Gwinnett County is seeking a State certified Firefighter/Paramedic responsible for duties in an assigned division. This safety sensitive position will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.

This position requires a public safety background check including motor vehicle histories, criminal histories, and fingerprinting.

• Pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing

Responsibilities

• Determines the type of medical emergency and field treatment to stabilize patients and performs emergency medical care including advanced life support.
• Assists in fire suppression duties utilizing equipment to contain and extinguish fire or mitigate other emergencies such as hazardous materials incidents and technical rescues.
• Inspects and operates assigned equipment, apparatus, or ambulance to ensure proper working condition.
• Monitors inventory usage and documentation for compliance.
• Prepares reports related to incidents, equipment, and patients.
• Performs inspections and maintenance of fire station and equipment.
• Participates in prevention programs to provide public information on life/fire safety.
• Determines the best way to assist citizens with general questions.
• Participates in regularly scheduled training programs for maintaining basic skills and career development.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

This class is a State certified Firefighter/ Paramedic responsible for performing duties in an assigned division of the department. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.

This position requires a public safety background check to include motor vehicle histories, criminal histories, and fingerprinting. This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after-hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

Applicants must pass a comprehensive background investigationincluding criminal, controlled substance, driving, employment history checks, an oral interview, medical exam including drug screen, psychological and physical agility testing.

Typical duties of the Firemedic position include the following, position assignments may vary:
