Job summary

The City of St. Louis Park, MN is seeking a dedicated firefighter to protect life and property, respond to emergencies, and perform safety inspections.

You will work as part of a team under supervision to suppress fires, provide medical care, and participate in ongoing training and public education programs. Responsibilities include maintaining apparatus and equipment, conducting pre-fire planning, and supporting neighboring communities as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Firefighter II certification (NFPA 1001).
• Hazardous Materials Responder – Operational Level certification (NFPA 472/1072).
• Current Minnesota EMT license (MNOEMS) and National Registry EMT certification.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Current Minnesota Paramedic certification license (MN OEMS) and National Registry Paramedic certification.
• Class B driver’s license.
• ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700, & ICS-800.
• Fluency in a language other than English.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fire alarms and emergency calls as part of a team under supervision, extinguish fires and protect lives and property.
• Conduct fire prevention inspections and prepare inspection forms listing fire code violations.
• Maintain fire apparatus, equipment, stations, and grounds under supervision.
• Attend regular training to upgrade firefighting skills including hydraulics, pump operation and rescue techniques.
• Drive and operate fire apparatus and ensure safe vehicle/equipment operation.
• Provide emergency medical care to injured persons and those affected by fire or smoke.
• Respond to emergency callbacks when off-duty.
• Work under supervision with independent discretion in emergencies and maintain professional conduct.
• Perform other duties as assigned per fire department procedures.
