Job summary

City of Hastings is seeking qualified Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic personnel to respond to emergencies in fire, rescue, and hazardous materials, and to perform BLS/ALS procedures, fire prevention, education, and training.

Successful applicants may be assigned to 12- or 24-hour shifts. Lateral applicants are encouraged and experience is considered for salary placement. Current Paramedics or Firefighter certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess minimum certification equal to Minnesota Firefighter I.
• Firefighter II with Hazardous Materials Operations and EMT.
• National Registry EMT/Paramedic certification.
• Meet NFPA medical and physical standards.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Minnesota Licensed Firefighter or ability to obtain License.

Responsibilities

• Performs firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose, and performing fire suppression, containment, ventilation, and extinguishment tasks.
• Performs Basic (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) procedures.
• Directs and supervises fire personnel at scenes of emergencies and ensures apparatus are decontaminated and returned to service.
• Operates Fire Apparatus vehicles and EMS vehicles in accordance with NFPA/OSHA Standards.
• Performs Fire Suppression, Rescue, and EMS duties per NFPA 1001 and OSHA Standards.
• Directs Technical Rescue duties per NFPA 1601 and OSHA Standards.
• Hazardous Materials Operations -; handles incidents per NFPA 472 and OSHA Standards.
• Public Education on fire prevention and EMS techniques.
• Develops and conducts Fire/EMS training to department personnel per NFPA and OSHA.
• Apparatus and Equipment Maintenance - performs checks and coordinates repairs.
