Job summary

The City of Rochester Hills is hiring a Firefighter/Paramedic to respond to emergencies, perform firefighting, rescue, and ALS medical duties. The role operates on a 24-hour shift (2912 hours/year) with an anticipated start date of January 4, 2027 and a first consideration date of 10/13/2026.

Candidates must hold Michigan Firefighter I & II, Paramedic licensure or NRP, and AHA CPR/ACLS, with CPAT/OPAT and EMPCO NFSI testing as applicable. Lateral hires may qualify for advanced placement.

Qualifications

• > Must have a High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• "> Michigan Firefighter Training Council Firefighter I and II certification at time of offer or in progress.
• "> Valid Michigan Paramedic License or National Registry Paramedic Certification at time of offer.
• "> AHA CPR for the Professional Rescuer and ACLS certifications.
• "> HazMat Awareness and Operations certifications.
• "> Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record (≤4 points).
• "> CPAT/OPAT card or certificate (required by time of offer).
• "> EMPCO NFSI test score on file or waived for lateral hires.

Responsibilities

• Perform firefighting tasks including extinguishing fires, rescuing victims, driving apparatus, operating pumps, and using SCBA.
• Assess fires and emergency scenes and report conditions to others.
• Conduct salvage operations and scene cleanup.
• Provide ALS medical care to adults and pediatrics per OC MCA protocols.
• Perform ALS procedures as required by protocols.
• Coordinate EMS activities and supervise personnel on EMS at scenes.
• Enter Fire and EMS data and maintain communication logs.
• Inspect buildings and hydrants and support fire prevention programs.
• Maintain fire equipment and station facilities; perform minor repairs.
• Foster safe work practices and professional relationships with city staff, hospitals, and public.
