Job summary

The City of Helotes Fire Department seeks a Fire Captain/EMT-Paramedic to lead on a 48-hour shift, oversee fire suppression, EMS response, and incident command. You will train staff, supervise operations, and ensure safety at the scene and on apparatus.

Requires strong knowledge of fire service methods, medical care protocols, and the ability to work under pressure. Must meet state certifications and residency requirements.

Qualifications

• Must be fluent in English (speech and reading).
• No history of criminal activity affecting fire/EMS work.
• Residency within 60 minutes of Helotes within 90 days of hire.
• TCFP Firefighter certification required or obtainable immediately.
• Texas EMT-Paramedic certification or license required.
• Valid Texas Driver License and Class B CVL within one year.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fires, EMS calls, and other emergencies.
• Provide on-scene medical care and definitive care as needed.
• Perform triage and ensure safe patient transport.
• Operate and maintain firefighting and EMS equipment safely.
• Lead rescue operations including technical rescue scenarios.
• Inspect equipment and comply with fire prevention codes.
