Job summary

The Dorchester County Fire Department is seeking a Firefighter II to perform general firefighting duties, respond to emergency calls, and provide medical aid on scene. The position follows a 48 hours on / 96 hours off shift with built-in overtime opportunities per departmental policy.

Minimum requirements include a High School diploma or GED, a valid South Carolina driver’s license, and a Firefighter II certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Six months in grade as a Firefighter II.
• Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina state driver’s license.
• Meets all qualifications for job classification Firefighter II.

Responsibilities

• Prepares/inspects firefighting gear and equipment.
• Drives apparatus to emergency and non-emergency calls and operates fire pump or ladder.
• Coordinates and participates in station operations and communicates with oncoming shifts.
• Performs firefighting activities and administers medical emergency aid on scene.
• Participates in drills, maintains station areas, and adheres to safety policies.
