Job summary

Dorchester County Government is hiring a Firefighter I to join the Fire Rescue Department. The role follows a 48-hour work/96-hour off schedule, with built-in overtime paid at 1.5x for hours over 106 in a 14-day cycle.

You will respond to fires, medical calls, and drills, performing firefighting and first aid as needed. Essential duties include station operations, equipment checks, inspections, and coordination with other agencies.

Qualifications

• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina state driver's license.
• IFSAC/Pro Board Firefighter I certification.
• NIMS-ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 certifications.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the work of an assigned fire station.
• Responds to fire/emergency medical and non-emergency calls.
• Performs firefighting and fire suppression activities.
• Administers emergency first aid.
• Participates in drills, demonstrations and courses in firefighting techniques.
• Adheres to station policies and procedures; ensures compliance with regulations.
• Assists with pre-fire planning, prevention, and apparatus checks.
• Performs duties safely and in accordance with policies.
• Utilizes firefighting equipment and tools.
• Interacts with Fire Chief, other departments, agencies, and the public.
• Maintains station cleanliness and personal fitness.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
