Job summary

Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority seeks an ARFF firefighter to provide rapid response to aircraft incidents, structural fires, and EMS calls at Lehigh Valley International Airport. You will operate ARFF vehicles, control pumps, and perform rescue and salvage while maintaining equipment and facilities.

Required qualifications include NFPA Firefighter 1 & 2, HAZMAT Ops, and NIMS ICS certificates; EMT preferred with a 12-month deadline.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• NFPA Firefighter Certification 1 & 2 required.
• ARFF Certification preferred.
• Pennsylvania EMT Certification preferred, must obtain EMT within 12 months of hire.
• Hazardous Materials Operations Level Certificate required.
• NIMS ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-70, and ICS-800 Certificates required.
• Minimum of 3 years of Interior Firefighting experience.
• PC skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and other applicable programs.
• Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Respond to aircraft, hazardous materials, structural and EMS incidents at the airport.
• Drive and operate ARFF vehicles and appliances to rescue operations.
• Perform firefighting, rescue, and salvage operations and maintain equipment.
• Inspect fire apparatus and equipment; keep station and areas clean and safe.
• Prepare reports and communicate professionally over radio, telephone, and email.
• Work on assigned shift schedules and be prepared for 24-hour shifts.

Positions in the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) department provide immediate response to rescue/ extrication, fire suppression, hazard mitigation and medical assistance emergencies at the airport servicing structures, aircraft, crew, passengers, and employees.Essential FunctionsRespond to all actual, potential, or simulated aircraft, hazardous materials (HAZMAT), structural and EMS incidents at Lehigh Valley International Airport and make decisions determining the best method of response.Serve as driver/operator of Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles at Lehigh Valley International Airport. Drive and maneuver vehicles to the most advantageous position for aircraft rescue.Prevent and/or extinguish fires and rescue aircraft crew and passengers.Operate pumps and perform firefighting, rescue, and salvage operations.Perform all required duties to prevent or extinguish aircraft or structural fires, rescue, emergency medical services and resuscitation while in the presence of hazardous work conditions, or in the operation of hazardous materials, equipment, vehicles, or other types of rescue operations.Respond to medical emergencies involving airport patrons and/or employees.In the absence of a Lieutenant, Captain, or Chief on duty, this position will assume responsibilities as the “Acting Lieutenant”.Professionally communicate over two-way radio, telephone, and email.Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.Additional ResponsibilitiesInspect fire apparatus, tools and emergency medical equipment and maintain in good working condition. Perform inspections of buildings, structures, fueling facilities and fueling vehicles for fire safety hazards and the elimination of such hazards.Maintain fire station and surrounding areas in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition.
