Job summary

Washington County Government is seeking a Part-Time Airport Maintenance Worker/Firefighter to perform firefighting, rescue, and ground support at Hagerstown Regional Airport. Responsibilities include emergency response, equipment checks, and terminal maintenance in all weather conditions.

The role requires firefighter certification, EMT/NIMS where applicable, and experience in airport operations. On-site work includes after-hours calls and service to airline ground handling operations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Respond to fire and medical emergencies; provide suppression and rescue services.
• Conduct ARFF vehicle readiness and equipment inventory checks.
• Perform airfield safety inspections and security checks.
• Assist with airline ground handling operations as needed.
• Work on-site, including after-hours responses and terminal maintenance tasks.

REPORTS TO: Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting Manager (Airport Fire Chief)

GENERALDEFINITIONOFWORK:

Perform responsibleprotectiveservice workinfire suppressionand rescue services inemergency situations and skilledand semi-skilled work inmaintenance of the airportgroundsand Terminalfacility alongwithservice asan AirlineGroundsOperationsAgent insupportofscheduled flights. Direction isprovidedbytheAirport Fire Rescue and Firefighting Manager (Airport Fire Chief) and the Airline Station Leader.

ESSENTIALFINCTIONS/TYPICALTASKS:

1. Respond toemergencyfire andmedicalsituations.Providefiresuppression and related rescue,entry, ventilation, salvage, emergency medical and hazardous materials containment services.
2. ConductsroutineARFFvehiclereadinessandequipmentinventorychecks.
3. Conductairfieldsafetyinspections.
4. Conductdailyinteriorandperimetersecuritychecks.
5. Maintainsemergency servicesandairfieldoperational proficiencybyattendingFAA and DODtraining classes.
6. Performnormalcare-taking dutiesto includegeneralcleaning andmaintenanceoftheairportterminalas well as general exterior light maintenance including mowing and snow removal.
7. Assist withairlinegroundhandlingoperations (includingbutnotlimitedto: baggageloading/unloading, marshalling aircraft in/out of gate area, deicing, servicing as a designated ramp observer, etc.)
8. Workasneeded,and working on-site“after-hours”,respondingtointercom calls fromusersoftheterminal, parking lot to answerquestions, collect payment with handheld point of sale device and/or generally resolve difficulties.

EDUCATIONANDEXPERIENCE:

4. Currentlive-burncertificateisdesirable.

6. NationalSafetyCouncilorUniversityofMarylandorequivalentEmergencyVehicleOperatorsCourse.
7. UniversityofMarylandorequivalenthazardousMaterialsOperationscourse.
8. UniversityofMarylandorequivalentPumpOperatorscourse.
9. Minimumoftwo-(2)yearsfirefightingexperiencewithacareerorvolunteerfiredepartment.
10. NIMScertificationsshouldbesubmittedforevaluation.

12. Minimumthreeyears’experienceintheoperationofemergencyvehicles.

PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:

5. Employeemust completeallrequiredairportand airline computerbased training,aswellas on thejob training within 60 days as a condition of employment.
