Job summary

The California Department of State Hospitals – Napa is seeking a Fire Fighter I for a 12-month limited-term, full-time assignment at Napa State Hospital. The position involves fighting fires, medical response, rescue, and life-safety education on-site.

Under supervision of the Fire Chief, the incumbent will perform firefighting duties, inspections, and EMS transport while maintaining certifications and contributing to safety programs in accordance with NFPA, OSHA, and state regulations.

Qualifications

• Fire Fighter I exam eligibility required.
• Must maintain required certifications per DSH Fire Service Training Plan.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fire prevention and life-safety inspections of hospital grounds and buildings according to NFPA 101 and CCR Title 19/Title 24.
• Inspect and assist with testing and maintenance of fire suppression and alarm systems; report deficiencies.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents including fires, medical calls, rescues, hazardous materials, and other disasters.
• Perform fire suppression, ventilation, rescue, salvage, and overhaul operations per NFPA 1001, 1500, and 1710.
• Provide EMT-B level care and medical transportation in compliance with Napa County EMSA policies.
• Operate emergency vehicles and fire apparatus safely and efficiently.
• Maintain required certifications and participate in training as outlined in the DSH Fire Service Training Plan.
