Job summary

The City of Fairburn Fire Department is hiring for Firefighter positions, including Recruit and Certified/EMT routes. Compensation is offered for 24-hour shifts with different pay rates per certification level.

The role involves fire suppression, rescue operations, EMS, and public safety education, with required Georgia certifications and a strong emphasis on physical fitness and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic arithmetic operations.
• Ability to operate and control firefighting equipment and tools.
• Ability to evaluate data using established criteria.
• Ability to supervise subordinates.
• Ability to assess risk in various situations.

Responsibilities

• Respond to alarms and all fire and non-fire emergencies, including structural fires, hazmat spills, vehicle accidents, and EMS calls.
• Provide basic life support using equipment such as KED, AED, traction splint, stair chair.
• Perform firefighting and rescue tasks, vehicle extrication, rope rescue, and forcible entry as needed.
• Perform salvage/overhaul, evacuations, crowd control, and utility shutoffs at scenes.
• Drive and maintain fire apparatus and PPE; participate in hydrant tests and mutual aid.
• Assist in public safety education, fire prevention, and station tours.
• Maintain records, reports, and training hours; ensure equipment readiness.
