Job summary

The City of Marina is seeking a Firefighter I to respond to fire alarms and medical calls, operate pumps and equipment, and participate in training to protect lives and property. Under supervision, you will perform prevention and administrative shift duties as assigned, and support the fire department in inspections, safety outreach, and routine maintenance.

Required credentials include a California driver license, EMT-1, and Firefighter I certification by probation end, with the opportunity to

Qualifications

• Knowledge of fire suppression and emergency medical care procedures.
• Understanding of fire safety codes and basic building construction.
• Ability to follow policies, procedures, and chain of command.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fire alarms, EMS calls and requests for assistance to protect life and property.
• Drive fire department vehicles; operate pumps and apparatus.
• Use ladders, hoses and other fire suppression equipment.
• Use power and hand tools for suppression, prevention, rescue, inspection, and maintenance.
• Participate in drills and training classes on fire science, EMS, hazmat, and station upkeep.
• Assist in performing inspections of facilities per fire codes and occupancies.
• Participate in presentations to local groups for fire prevention and safety.
• Provide administrative support to the Company Officer as assigned.
• Perform routine maintenance of equipment, tools, vehicles and facilities.
• Promote and maintain safety in the workplace.
• Firefighters may be called to work at the next highest rank as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
