Job summary

The City of Porterville (CA) is seeking a Firefighter I under general supervision to respond to life and property protection emergencies, perform fire suppression, provide EMS, and participate in training and prevention programs.

Duties include inspections, weed abatement, public education, and mapping; applicants must hold Firefighter I or be eligible, EMT certification, and a valid CA Driver’s License. Residency within Tulare, Kern, Kings, and Fresno counties may apply.

Qualifications

• Certified Firefighter I or eligible for Firefighter I Certification at appointment.
• Valid Class C California Driver’s License at time of appointment.
• Current EMT Certification at appointment and maintained.
• Must pass department agility test during testing process.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fire emergencies and operate firefighting, control and rescue equipment.
• Render emergency medical aid and CPR.
• Inspect and service firefighting equipment; maintain station and hydrant systems.
• Attend and participate in training, drills and fitness programs.
• Conduct building inspections for fire prevention and code enforcement.
• Assist with weed abatement, arson investigation and public information programs.
• Participate in public education programs and fire/burn prevention events.
