Job summary

The City of Bolivar is seeking a dedicated Firefighter to perform fire suppression, EMS, rescue, and hazardous materials operations. You will participate in daily department tasks, maintain equipment and facilities, and contribute to public safety through inspections and education.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, valid Missouri driver’s license, and Firefighter I and II certifications or be able to obtain state certification within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Knowledge in Fire Prevention, Fire Suppression, Hazardous Materials, EMS including modern fire and emergency medical equipment and apparatus.
• Knowledge and ability to safely operate modern fire suppression tools & equipment including extinguishers, hand tools and power tools.
• Computer Skills including typing, data entry, Firehouse Software, Microsoft Office Suite or other approved software.
• Follow instructions from supervisors both written and verbal.
• Interact with subordinates, supervisors, and community in a positive and professional manner.
• Mitigate stressful situations in a calm and professional manner; analyze situations and react quickly.
• Firefighter I and II certifications or must pass state testing within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Respond as a crewmember on emergency alarms including fire protection, EMS, rescue and hazardous materials situations.
• Drives and operates all fire apparatus as required.
• Performs daily work activities including testing & maintenance of apparatus, grounds, facilities and equipment.
• Assists in daily departmental operations including answering phones, correspondence, training and public relations.
• Enters & maintains incident reports utilizing Firehouse Software, Microsoft products or other approved software.
• Conducts fire inspections & fire prevention programs within the community including pre-planning, public education and occupancy inspections.
• Attends and participates in department training and work sessions as required by supervisory personnel.
• Performs any other duties as assigned.
