Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, and specialized training in the field.
• Three years of experience in the occupational field, with at least one year as a firefighter.
• Valid Alaska driver's license for vehicle type operated.
• Alaska Firefighter I certification required at time of hire.
• State of Alaska Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator certification required at hire.
• ETT certification preferred at time of hire.
• ICS 100 and IS 700 within 90 days; ICS 200 and IS 800 within one year.
• Pre-employment background check, drug screen, respirator fit test, PAT and NFPA 1582 exams.
• Baseline audiometry, Hepatitis B vaccination, TB screening as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fires, motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies and rescues.
• Drives and operates fire/rescue apparatus at scenes and during duties.
• Sets up and operates pumps, aerial devices, generators and hoses.
• Calculates pump discharge pressures using hydraulics and SOPs.
• Inspects, maintains, stocks and loads firefighting/EMS equipment.
• Provides emergency medical assistance to the level of certification.
• Wears and maintains PPE and gear.
• Participates in training classes and drills.
• Cleans and maintains fire station and grounds.
• Delivers public fire and life safety education.
• Operates hoses, fans, salvage tools and other equipment.
• Prepares regular and special reports.
• Participates in building inspections and fire prevention.
• Tests and inventories hoses.
• Performs related duties.
