Washington County is hiring a Firefighter – Fire Apparatus Operator (Full Time) in the Division of Emergency Services. No prior fire/EMS certifications are required to apply, with comprehensive benefits and a structured recruit academy.

The role focuses on firefighting, rescue, EMS, and related operations, offering a defined path to certification and career progression. Applicants must meet basic requirements, pass a PAT, and complete a medical clearance.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 19 years old at hire.
• Possession of Maryland Class C or higher driver’s license (or equivalent).
• Completing required certifications maintained through employment.

Responsibilities

• Respond to firefighting, rescue, hazmat, EMS incidents.
• Operate emergency vehicles and fire apparatus.
• Perform fire suppression, vehicle extrication, and patient care.
• Maintain and inspect vehicles and equipment for readiness.
• Complete reports documenting responses and actions.
• Assist with station housekeeping and administrative tasks.
• Participate in training and drills to stay current.
