Job summary

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is seeking a Firefighter in Virginia to respond to emergencies, drive and operate fire apparatus, and perform fire suppression and rescue duties to protect lives and property.

Requirements include 18+ years old, background checks, medical/vision exams, drug screen, polygraph, written test, and EMS driver/operator clearance within a year. ARFF experience and NFPA/IFSAC certifications preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old by the closing date.
• Background investigation including employment history, credit, criminal and driving records.
• Must pass a comprehensive medical and vision examination including drug screening.
• Must pass a physical ability examination and a polygraph.
• Must pass a written exam.
• Operational-level knowledge of hazardous materials incident response, basic firefighting and rescue skills, and use of related equipment and procedures.
• Must be cleared as driver/operator of an EMS transport unit within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency incidents and mitigates emergencies per training.
• Drives vehicle/apparatus safely.
• Operates and inspects all apparatus, tools, and equipment to mitigate emergencies and extinguish fires.
• Performs fire ground operations to ensure safety, fire control, and property protection.
• Performs risk assessment and determines action to minimize risk and property damage.
• May lead or assist training sessions and EMS internship programs.
• Participates in airport/community relations programs.
• Performs station maintenance and keeps a clean, safe environment.
• Attends mandatory training to maintain readiness.
