Job summary

College Pines Health & Rehabilitation in Kentucky is seeking a dependable Fire Watch on the night shift, 11pm–7am. This temporary role focuses on monitoring designated areas for fire and life-safety hazards while protection systems are impaired or being repaired.

The Fire Watch must stay alert, follow procedures, document rounds hourly, and report any fire or safety concerns to designated staff. Sleep or leaving post without relief is prohibited.

Qualifications

• Must be dependable, punctual, and able to stay awake for the full shift.
• Able to read and accurately complete electronic Fire Watch documentation.
• Must communicate clearly with staff and emergency responders.
• Capable of remaining calm and following established procedures during emergencies.
• Able to walk and patrol the facility for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Conduct continuous and scheduled patrols of all assigned areas.
• Monitor for fire, smoke, odors, overheating equipment, and other life-safety hazards.
• Document Fire Watch rounds hourly and record observations.
• Notify appropriate personnel and emergency services as required.
• Maintain immediate access to emergency communication equipment.
• Initiate emergency procedures if fire or smoke is discovered.
• Ensure exits and evacuation routes remain unobstructed.
• Remain at post for the entire shift unless relieved.
• Follow Fire Watch procedures and patrol routes.
• Communicate safety concerns to Administrators or Maintenance Director.

Job description

College Pines Health & Rehabilitation is currently seeking a dependable and safety-focused individual to provide Fire Watch coverage on night shift, 11pm-7am. This temporary position is responsible for continuously monitoring designated areas of the facility for potential fire and life-safety hazards while required fire protection systems are impaired, out of service, or undergoing repair.

Because our facility serves residents who may require assistance during an emergency, the Fire Watch employee must remain alert, follow established procedures, and immediately report any fire, smoke, unsafe condition, or other emergency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct continuous and scheduled patrols of all assigned areas of the facility.
• Remain alert for signs of fire, smoke, unusual odors, overheating equipment, electrical hazards, blocked exits, and other potential fire or life-safety concerns.
• Follow the facility's established Fire Watch procedures and designated patrol route.
• Electronically document Fire Watch Rounds every hour, including observations, and any corrective actions taken.
• Maintain immediate access to an approved method of emergency communication.
• Immediately initiate the facility's emergency response procedures if fire or smoke is discovered.
• Notify appropriate facility personnel and emergency services as required by the facility's Fire Watch plan.
• Monitor exits, corridors, stairwells, fire doors, and other designated life-safety areas for unsafe conditions.
• Ensure exits and evacuation routes remain unobstructed.
• Remain at the assigned post or patrol area for the entire shift unless properly relieved.
• Communicate promptly with the Administrator, Maintenance Director, or other designated facility representative regarding safety concerns.
• Follow all facility safety, infection-control, confidentiality, and resident-protection requirements.
• Perform other Fire Watch duties as directed by facility leadership or required by the facility's approved Fire Watch procedures.

• Must be able to remain calm and follow established procedures during an emergency.

Important Position Requirements

Fire Watch personnel are expected to remain actively engaged in Fire Watch responsibilities throughout the assigned shift. Sleeping, leaving the assigned area without relief, or performing duties that interfere with required Fire Watch surveillance is prohibited.

The individual selected for this position will receive instructions regarding the facility's Fire Watch procedures, patrol requirements, emergency notification process, documentation requirements, and actions to take if smoke, fire, or another life-safety hazard is identified.
