Job summary

Sciens Building Solutions is looking for an experienced Fire Sprinkler System Designer to join our growing team in New Jersey. You will design automatic fire protection systems, create HydraCAD drawings, and use BIM to place systems on engineered drawings.

Field surveys and coordination with field personnel are part of the role. Requires 2–5 years of relevant experience, NFPA knowledge (13/14/20/24), HydraCAD proficiency, and the ability to work under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• Two to five years of fire protection system layout and calculation experience.
• Ability to read fire system design drawings.
• Working knowledge of wet, dry, and pre-action systems, as well as backflows and fire pumps.
• HydraCAD and 3D coordination experience.
• Experience with fire sprinkler industry design software.
• Experience with installation of underground piping.
• Proficiency in NFPA 13, 14, 20 & 24 code requirements.
• NICET Level II in water-based systems layout.
• Knowledge of Fire and Life Safety industry.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a sense of urgency.
• Ability to work independently with some supervision.
• Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret construction documents and plans.
• Design fire sprinkler systems including pumps, wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems.
• Meet tight deadlines and manage individual schedules.
• Create detailed drawings with HydraCAD.
• Use BIM to place systems on engineered drawings.
• Conduct field surveys and assist field personnel with installation issues.
• Perform hydraulic calculations and prepare stock lists for fabrication.
• Ensure compliance with codes and AHJ requirements.
• Coordinate with pre-construction teams across trades.
• Identify project changes affecting cost, schedule or labor.

Sciens Building Solutions is seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler System Designer. This is a key position for our growing team that requires knowledge and attention to detail in all aspects of NFPA 13,14, 20 & 24. This position will work closely with our estimating, project management, field, and fabrication teams.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (and doing well!)

• Read and interpret construction documents and plans.
• Fire sprinkler design of automatic fire systems, including fire pumps, wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and maintain individual schedule and completion dates.
• Create detailed drawings through the use of HydraCAD software.
• Use BIM to design system onto engineered drawings.
• Conduct field surveys and assist field personnel with design-related installation issues.
• Perform hydraulic calculations and detail stock lists for fabrication.
• Ensure work complies with applicable codes and AHJ requirements.
• Pre-construction coordination with other trades.
• Identify changes in projects that impact cost, schedule, or labor requirements.
