Job summary

Sciens Building Solutions is seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler System Designer for our growing team. The role involves NFPA 13/14/20/24 design, HydraCAD drawings, and BIM integration, coordinating with estimating, project management, and fabrication teams.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of layout/calculation experience, NICET II in water-based systems, and strong reading of design drawings, with a focus on accuracy and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Two to five years of fire protection system layout and calculation experience.
• Proficient reading of fire system design drawings.
• NICET II in water-based systems layout is required.
• Knowledge of NFPA 13, 14, 20 & 24 codes.
• Experience with HydraCAD and 3D coordination.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret construction documents and plans.
• Fire sprinkler design of automatic fire systems, including pumps, wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge.
• Create detailed drawings with HydraCAD and BIM.
• Conduct field surveys and assist field personnel with design issues.
• Perform hydraulic calculations and prepare fabrication stock lists.
• Ensure compliance with codes and AHJ requirements.
• Coordinate pre-construction with other trades.
• Identify changes affecting cost, schedule, or labor.

Job description

THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL

Sciens Building Solutions is seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler System Designer. This is a key position for our growing team that requires knowledge and attention to detail in all aspects of NFPA 13,14, 20 & 24. This position will work closely with our estimating, project management, field, and fabrication teams.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (and doing well!)

• Read and interpret construction documents and plans.
• Fire sprinkler design of automatic fire systems, including fire pumps, wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and maintain individual schedule and completion dates.
• Create detailed drawings through the use of HydraCAD software.
• Use BIM to design system onto engineered drawings.
• Conduct field surveys and assist field personnel with design-related installation issues.
• Perform hydraulic calculations and detail stock lists for fabrication.
• Ensure work complies with applicable codes and AHJ requirements.
• Pre-construction coordination with other trades.
• Identify changes in projects that impact cost, schedule, or labor requirements.

WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU

• Two to five years of fire protection system layout and calculation experience.
• Ability to read fire system design drawings.
• Working knowledge of wet, dry, and pre-action systems, as well as backflows and fire pumps.
• HydraCAD and 3D coordination experience.
• Experience with fire sprinkler industry design software.
• Experience with installation of underground piping.
• Ability to read fire system design drawings
• Proficient in NFPA 13, 14, 20 & 24 code requirements.
• NICET level II in water-based systems layout.
• Knowledge of Fire and Life Safety industry.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a sense of urgency.
• Ability to work independently with some supervision.
• Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
• Able to pass background check and pre-employment drug screening.
