Job summary

Johnson Controls in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Service Technician to join our field team. You will receive service calls, diagnose sprinkler problems, and perform repairs on wet, dry, pre-action, deluge and fire pumps for commercial and industrial sites.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of sprinkler experience, reads blueprints, and can use Word, Excel and Outlook. A high school diploma is required; you must lift up to 70 lbs, work on-call, and hold a valid driver’s license

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of sprinkler experience in the fire sprinkler industry.
• Proficient with Word, Excel and Outlook; able to use mobile apps.
• Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, specs and manuals.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Willing to work flexible hours including weekends.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Able to lift up to 70 lbs and perform physical labor.
• Follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
• On-call rotation required.
• NICET/backflow certification and fire pump experience are a plus.

Contact customer representative and ascertain equipment/systems problems. Perform service and repairs on sprinkler systems for commercial, industrial and residential applications. These include but are not limited to wet (steel, copper and CPVC), dry, pre-action, deluge and fire pumps. **How you will do it*** Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications software/systems, programs, schematics and operational product manuals.* Demonstrate a high level of customer service, with strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.* Must have the ability to work alone.* Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices and bulletins, modification notices, etc. in order to diagnose and repair equipment. **What we look for** **Required*** 3-5 years of documented experience in Fire Sprinkler industry performing service and repair to Sprinkler* Have computer/phone skills - Word, Excel, Outlook and mobile apps and functions* Be able to perform service work on all water-based fire protection systems* High School Diploma or equivalent required* Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements* Must maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs* Must adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times* Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements* Follow verbal and written instructions* Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools weighing up to 70 lbs.* Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 60 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.* Must be able to follow, read and understand all safety requirement of the company and the customer* This role does require an on-call rotation **Preferred*** NICET certification is a plus* Backflow certification is a plus* Fire pump experience a plus HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $26.05 - 40.00 Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
