Fire Sprinkler Inspector - RME-I
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Fire Sprinkler Inspector holding an active State Fire Marshal RME-I license to join our Life Safety team. The selected candidate will perform inspections, testing, and maintenance (ITM) of commercial and residential fire protection sprinkler systems and serve as the licensed RME-I for assigned inspections. This role requires ensuring compliance with NFPA standards, state statutes, and local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine quarterly, annual, and 5-year inspections and testing of wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, and fire pump systems in accordance with NFPA 25.
- Inspect and test fire sprinkler systems, components, valves, backflow preventers, and related fire protection equipment.
- Identify system deficiencies, troubleshoot issues, and perform minor maintenance and repairs when required.
- Complete accurate inspection reports using digital reporting software.
- Properly apply inspection and service tags in accordance with State Fire Marshal requirements.
- Review inspection findings with facility managers and clearly explain code violations, deficiencies, and recommended repairs.
- Read and interpret system drawings, risers, blueprints, and hydraulic data plates.
- Ensure all inspections and service activities comply with applicable NFPA standards, state fire codes, statutes, and AHJ requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of inspection, testing, and maintenance activities.
- Represent the organization professionally while working with customers, facility managers, and AHJ representatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
Mandatory Credentials
- Active State RME-I License: Must hold an unexpired Responsible Managing Employee - General Inspector (RME-I) license issued by the applicable State Fire Marshal's Office.
- NICET Certification: NICET Level II in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems, or equivalent documentation accepted by the State Fire Marshal's Office.
- Valid Driver's License: Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record and be eligible to operate company service vehicles.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in fire sprinkler inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA 25, NFPA 13, and NFPA 20.
- Knowledge of applicable state fire statutes, codes, and local AHJ requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, system risers, hydraulic data plates, and fire protection system documentation.
- Experience troubleshooting fire sprinkler systems, valves, backflow preventers, fire pumps, and related components.
- Proficiency with mobile inspection/reporting applications and standard field service equipment.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage scheduled inspections efficiently.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry 50-75 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding and safely work at elevated heights.
- Comfortable working in mechanical rooms, attics, crawl spaces, and other confined or elevated areas.
- Ability to work in varying environmental and field conditions.
Additional Requirements
- Must maintain all required licenses and certifications in active status.
- Must follow all applicable safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Occasional travel to customer locations may be required.
