Job summary

State of Missouri’s Missouri Division of Fire Safety seeks a seasoned Certification Specialist to develop and coordinate firefighter training and certification programs. You will align curricula with NFPA standards and provide expert guidance to instructors and academies, while maintaining rigorous documentation and reporting practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: 4-year high school diploma or equivalent; State DEE equivalency.
  • Five years of professional fire department experience (firefighter, instructor, inspector, officer).
  • IFSAC/ProBoard Fire Service Instructor Level I certification.
  • Must obtain Fire Service Instructor II within 12 months.
  • IFSAC/ProBoard Live Fire Instructor certification.
  • Must obtain Live Fire Instructor-in-Charge within 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate statewide firefighter and emergency responder training and certification programs meeting NFPA standards.
  • Coordinate materials, exams, and skills evaluations; assign instructors and evaluators.
  • Oversee certification exam quality, item validity, and testing reliability.
  • Train and supervise instructors and evaluators; perform quality audits of sites, instructors, and exam evaluators.
  • Provide technical guidance to fire service academies and colleges on training programs and testing methodologies.
  • Stay current on NFPA standards and regulatory changes; ensure compliance and accreditation.
  • Manage program records, trainee files, course docs, and certification status; prepare reports.
  • Communicate with internal staff and external stakeholders; represent organization at meetings and conferences.
  • Assist with development and oversight of training-related budgets.
