Job summary

The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is seeking a part-time Fire Certification Specialist II to support the Division of Personnel Standards and Education. The ideal candidate will have extensive fire service experience and a background in training and educating fire service personnel.

You will work with fire departments to review training records and ensure OSFM-approved certification courses meet standards.

Qualifications

• Two years of college with primary concentration in fire science, business or public administration, or a related program.
• OSFM Fire Officer II or Advanced Fire Officer certification.
• Five years of documented fire service experience as a firefighter.
• Four years of experience in a training environment instructing and developing training programs.
• Must obtain OSFM Training Program Manager certification within twelve months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Reviews objectives of certification programs, training records, reimbursement claims, course approvals, site approvals, and safety aspects to ensure compliance.
• Conducts fire department visits to instruct personnel in training record compliance.
• Responds to inquiries regarding the certification program as a resource.
• Speaks to governmental and fire service entities to promote division certification and outreach.
• Conducts course approval reviews for compliance of training facility certification programs.
• Maintains records of time sheets and activities related to training and certification programs.
• Trains lower-level Fire Certification Specialists to perform practical examination reviews.
