Job summary

Thompson Safety/Liberty Fire Protection is seeking a Fire Service Technician to inspect, test, and repair fire suppression systems and extinguishers in our Texas service area.

The role requires electrical knowledge, NFPA familiarity, and strong problem solving. A valid driver’s license is required, and candidates with FEL-A or FEL-K licenses will be favored. Travel is daily and safety is emphasized.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand/power tools.
• Knowledge of basic electricity and ability to read electrical schematic diagrams.
• Proven experience as a portable fire extinguisher and/or fire suppression technician.
• Proficiency in reading NFPA standards (10, 17, 17a, 96) and technical manuals (Ansul, Amerex, CaptiveAire).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with customers and team members.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
• Valid driver's license; ability to pass drug and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Perform annual maintenance/inspections of suppression systems and fire extinguishers.
• Determine proper type, quantity, and placement of extinguishers based on hazard/occupancy.
• Exchange serviceed extinguishers; replace obsolete/damaged units.
• Install fire extinguisher cabinets, brackets, and wall hangers.
• Maintain flawless inspection reports with 100% accuracy.
• Perform semi-annual inspections of restaurant and industrial systems.
• Document findings and note deficiencies on reports.
• Communicate non-compliance issues to customers.
• Collaborate with customers, contractors, and team members for effective use of extinguishers/systems.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and practices for personal and others' safety.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Thompson Safety/Liberty Fire Protection has a great opportunity to join a growing team by working as a Fire Service Technician testing, inspecting, and repairing fire suppression systems and extinguishers.

Candidates seeking the highest level of pay will have an active FEL-A license for Texas. Candidates holding an FEL-K license will also be considered.

Essential Job Functions

• Perform annual maintenance/inspections of suppression systems & fire extinguishers.
• Determine proper type, quantity, and placement of fire extinguishers based on hazard/occupancy classification.
• Exchange fire extinguishers that require service; replace obsolete/damaged units.
• Installation of fire extinguisher cabinets, brackets, and wall hangers.
• Flawless execution of inspection reports, 100% accuracy every time!
• Perform semi-annual inspection of restaurant and industrial fire suppression systems.
• Document findings and note deficiencies on inspection reports.
• Communicate to the customer any non-compliance issues.
• Collaborate with customers, contractors, and other team members to ensure efficient and effective use of fire extinguishers and possibly fire suppression systems.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and practices, both for personal safety and the safety of others.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required. Certifications or training in fire extinguisher and fire suppression systems is strongly preferred.

• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Maintain a valid driver's license and ability to pass a drug and background check.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear and have full use of hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to work from a ladder, and in some case, a man-lift.
• Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel daily.
