Job summary

Thompson Safety, LLC in Cedar Park, TX is seeking a Fire Extinguisher/Kitchen Suppression System Technician to inspect, install, and maintain fire extinguishers and suppression systems. State licensing (Texas K) is required for this role, with a focus on accuracy in inspections and customer communication.

The technician will perform annual and semi-annual inspections on extinguishers, suppression, sprinklers, and alarms, while documenting findings and ensuring compliance.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; certifications in fire extinguishers and suppression preferred.
  • 2+ years' experience in fire extinguishers and suppression systems is advantageous.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand/power tools.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity and ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Proven experience as a Fire Technician preferred; Texas K license required.
  • Ability to read NFPA standards (10, 13, 17, 17a, 25, 72, 96) and rely on technical manuals (Ansul, Amerex, CaptiveAire).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for customer interaction.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks; valid driver's license; pass drug/background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Exchange extinguishers requiring service; replace obsolete/damaged units.
  • Install fire extinguisher cabinets, brackets, and wall hangers.
  • Indicate type, size, and location of extinguishers on reports.
  • Perform semi-annual and annual inspections of restaurant/industrial suppression, sprinkler, and fire alarm systems.
  • Document findings and note deficiencies on inspection reports.
  • Communicate non-compliance issues to customers.
  • Collaborate with customers, contractors, and team members for maintenance and repair.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Build partnerships to grow the business within the industry.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines for personal and team safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

The Fire Extinguisher/Kitchen Suppression System Technician is responsible for is responsible for the installation, inspection of fire extinguishers and the inspection, installation and repair of fire suppression systems (Kitchen Hoods). Appropriate state license is required.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform Annual maintenance/inspections of fire extinguishers.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Certifications or training on fire extinguishers and fire suppression, fire sprinkler, and fire alarm systems is strongly preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand/power tools.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity and the ability to read electrical schematic diagrams.
  • Proven experience working as a Fire Technician is preferred.
  • Must have Texas K license
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting NFPA standards (10, 13, 17, 17a, 25, 72, 96), and technical manuals (Ansul, Amerex, CaptiveAire, etc.)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Maintain a v alid driver's license and ability to pass a drug and background check.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear and have full use of hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work from a ladder, and in some case, a man-lift.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel daily.
