Job summary

Thompson Safety in the United States seeks a Fire Service Technician to install, maintain, and inspect fire extinguishers and related suppression systems. You will determine placement, perform servicing, and replace units to ensure safety compliance.

Responsibilities include documenting findings, communicating non-compliance to customers, and collaborating with contractors to grow the business while upholding safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; fire extinguisher/fire suppression certifications preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude with hand/power tools.
  • Basic electricity knowledge; ability to read electrical schematic diagrams.
  • Proven experience as portable fire extinguisher and/or fire suppression technician.
  • Proficiency in reading NFPA standards (10, 17, 17a, 96) and technical manuals (Ansul, Amerex, CaptiveAire).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • Maintain a valid driver\'s license and ability to pass a drug and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Exchange fire extinguishers that require service; replace obsolete/damaged units.
  • Installation of fire extinguisher cabinets, brackets, and wall hangers.
  • Indicate type, size, and location of extinguishers on inspection reports.
  • Perform semi-annual inspection of restaurant and industrial fire suppression systems.
  • Document findings and note deficiencies on inspection reports.
  • Communicate to the customer any non-compliance issues.
  • Collaborate with customers, contractors, and other team members to ensure effective use of extinguishers and possibly fire suppression systems.
  • Build and develop partnerships to grow the business within the industry marketplace.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and practices, both for personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Fire Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and inspection of fire extinguishers. The role could expand to handle testing, inspecting, and repairing fire suppression systems (Kitchen Hoods, Paint Booth, etc.).

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform a nnual maintenance/inspections of fire extinguishers.

Experience & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Certifications or training in fire extinguisher and fire suppression systems is strongly preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand/power tools.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity and the ability to read electrical schematic diagrams.
  • Proven experience working as a portable fire extinguisher and/or fire suppression technician.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting NFPA standards (10, 17, 17a, 96), and technical manuals (Ansul, Amerex, CaptiveAire, etc.).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and ability to pass a drug and background check.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear and have full use of hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work from a ladder, and in some case, a man-lift.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel daily.
