A leading educational institution seeks a Fire Science Technician to support fire science students in practical and theoretical learning experiences. This part-time position involves collaboration with faculty and students, requiring essential certifications and strong communication skills. The role promotes environmental stewardship while preparing future firefighters with hands-on training in live fire scenarios.
Primary Responsibility
Under the supervision of the Fire Science Technology Assistant Dean of Instruction and faculty, the Fire Science Technician will collaborate with faculty to provide quality learning experiences for fire science students. The position involves engaging with students in both classroom and laboratory settings, including live fire scenarios. The technician will identify students' learning needs and assist in improving their performance on various tasks.
Note: This is a part-time position limited to 28 hours per week, with the workweek running Saturday through Friday.
The ideal candidate will have sufficient education and experience, such as holding Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control Certifications in Firefighter I & II, Hazardous Material Operations & Technician, Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I, or Fire Instructor I. Current certifications in Emergency Medical Technician - Basic and BLS for Healthcare Providers are also required. Experience may substitute for formal education, including at least 400 hours serving as a Firefighter 1 with a fire district or as a volunteer. Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with faculty and students in live-fire training are essential.

The pay rate is $31.96 per hour, with benefits including retirement, sick and annual leave, mental health resources, and tuition benefits. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The position is anticipated to close on June 6, 2025, or until filled.
Essential Duties
Guide students in NFPA 1001 tasks such as PPE procedures, fire ground communication, apparatus response, scene safety, rescue operations, ventilation, overhaul, salvage, and equipment maintenance.
Supervision Received
Reports to the Fire Science Technology Assistant Dean of Instruction or designee, with guidance as needed.
Supervisory Responsibility
None.
Special Conditions of Employment
Successful background check and motor vehicle report required. May need to transport students using a CMC vehicle. Work may include a 48/96 course schedule.
Working Conditions
Involves sitting, walking, standing, driving, handling objects, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs., and frequent communication. Work is performed mainly at a computer and in vehicles.
