Under the general oversight of the assigned shift Sergeant, the officer performs routine law enforcement and security work in the protection of people and in the safeguarding of University property. The incumbent secures assigned property against possible loss or damage and is charged with ensuring the safety of all individuals on campus.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patrols/makes rounds of the assigned area by foot or vehicle; watches for unauthorized persons or activities; reports unusual instances to shift Sergeant; calls police for assistance if necessary.
- Assists in traffic directions and parking for special details.
- Provides University information to Stetson faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Provides escort to Stetson community members to and from buildings and parking lots as needed.
- Maintains lost and found services; checks for safety, fire, and/or security hazards; monitors fire and security alarms.
- Locks and unlocks facilities as requested by an authorized person(s).
- Prepares reports; issues traffic citations; provides disaster and emergency evaluation and management; relieves dispatcher when necessary.
- Performs some minor building maintenance tasks, i.e., unstopping commodes, securing broken windows, turning off water, and resetting 110-volt electric circuit breakers.
- Responds to various types of building and equipment alarms; coordinating with the local Fire and Police Departments as they respond.
- Works on a rotating shift basis and includes ability to work occasional overtime and a 24-hour emergency on-call status.
- Position duties necessitate the physical ability to endure standing and/or walking for long periods, stair climbing, bending, stooping, and manual dexterity, and lifting up to fifty pounds.

Required Experience
- High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year of law enforcement or security experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must possess a State of Florida “Class D” security license or be willing to pursue and secure such certification (State of Florida Chapter 493).
- Must pass a standard background/security check.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications: The ideal candidate’s qualifications include:
- Prior law-enforcement or security-related experience.
- Current possession of an active Florida Class-D License.
