Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum two years of fire service or related experience.
• Texas Commission on Fire Protection Fire Inspector certification.
• TCOLE Basic Peace Officer certification.
• U.S. Citizenship required to obtain TCOLE certification.
• Fire Investigator certification within two years of employment.
• Arson Investigation license within two years of employment.
• Fire Prevention Specialist Certification or SFMEA certification within two years.
• Valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Preferred: public speaking/presentation experience; NFPA Plan Review certification.

Responsibilities

• Investigates fires to determine cause and origin.
• Gathers facts, interviews victims and witnesses, and collects evidence for courts.
• Conducts fire and life safety inspections of buildings and facilities.
• Enforces fire laws and city ordinances; testifies in court when needed.
• Develops and delivers fire safety education in schools and communities.
• Represents the City at civic events and participates in community outreach.
• Coordinate volunteer fire participation in prevention programs.
