Job summary

UL Solutions in Northbrook, IL is seeking an engineering professional to test and evaluate building assemblies for fire-resistance performance. A background in civil/structural engineering or construction management is preferred, with interest in building systems and fire safety.

Responsibilities include defining project scope, planning investigations, coordinating lab activities, communicating with clients about UL procedures, costs, and timelines, and ensuring compliance with UL requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or similar required.
• 1+ year of experience in fire resistance, civil/structural engineering, construction, or similar.
• Ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications by analyzing client input and data.
• Projects may include travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites.
• Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and scheduling staff.
• Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, and negotiate completion dates.
