Job summary

Houston Community College seeks an Instructor for Fire Protection Technology to provide high-quality instruction across multiple Houston-area sites. The role involves teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats, developing syllabi, and supporting ABET-aligned program goals.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree (bachelor’s preferred), required Texas Fire Commission certifications, and a minimum of three years industry experience. Teaching experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree is required.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
• Texas Fire Commission Basic Fire Fighter Certification and Intermediate Fire Instructor Certification are required.
• A portfolio of extensive work experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
• 3 years industry experience required; 1 year college teaching preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses at multiple sites around the city and in various modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online).
• Develop and implement syllabi for each course and labs.
• Evaluate student progress and maintain records.
• Advise students and participate in program development and ABET alignment.
• Participate in institutional and community service and committee activities.
• Engage in professional development and stay current in the discipline.
