Job summary

Vallen Distribution is seeking a Service Technician I to perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and repair of safety equipment in the Vallen Safety Services group. You will service life safety gear such as fire extinguishers, gas detectors, respiratory equipment, and related safety devices.

The role requires a high school education, relevant certifications, and at least one year of related experience, with a focus on quality, accuracy, and OSHA/NFPA compliance.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 Certification (manufacturer/state).
• Minimum 1 year related experience.
• Mechanically inclined and able to read English.
• Experience in inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of safety equipment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct service calls to inspect, test, maintain and repair safety equipment.
• Identify equipment discrepancies and document findings.
• Prepare accurate Technician Worksheets (TWS) and reports.
• Provide customer service for life safety equipment including extinguishers, hoses, gas detectors, respiratory gear and fall protection.
• Ensure testing/repair documentation is complete and invoicing-ready.
• Maintain required documentation and licenses; follow OSHA/NFPA/SOPs.

Position Summary:

Put your maintenance and repair skills to good use at Vallen as a Service Technician I focused Instrument, Fire, and Respiratory services in the Vallen Safety Services group! In this position, you will perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs on safety equipment for established customers on a scheduled basis.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conducting service calls.
• Identifying equipment discrepancies.
• Preparing accurate and timely Technician Worksheets (TWS) and reports.
• Providing customer service in the area of Inspecting, Testing, Maintenance and Repairs of Life Safety Equipment. Including, but not limited to: Fire Extinguishers, Fire Hose, Gas Detection Monitors, Respiratory Equipment, Fall Protection Equipment and Safety Shower / Eyewash Units.
• Responsible for providing the testing and repair documentation and ensuring it is filled out accurately, completely and turned in for proper invoicing.
• Responsible for ensuring the customer has all required copies of all required documentation upon servicing equipment.
• Basic knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to assigned duties, i.e., State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations, NFPA Guidelines and Vallen Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Always exhibit safe work practices.
• Assist in shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders & distributing to sales associates for processing.
• May include the use of company provided assets such as but not limited to: Company Vehicle, Inventory, Safety Equipment, Laptop, BR Scanner, Test Equipment, Tools, Radio, Cell Phone, Fuel Card and/or Credit Card.
• Associates are required to maintain proper care of all assets as defined by Vallen policies.

Job Qualifications:

• High School or GED
• Minimum 1 Certifications (manufacturer /state)
• Minimum 1-year related experience
• Mechanically inclined
• Specific -- RELEVENT experience
  • Experience in the Inspection, Testing, Maintenance and Repair of Safety Equipment.
  • Ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen North America.
  • Current Motor Vehicle License with good driving record.
  • Commercial Driver's License required if carrying loads of hazardous materials.
  • Proficient with hand tools.
  • Able to complete repairs and maintenance of equipment in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist warehouse personnel with order fulfillment if needed.
  • Maintain minimum productivity of 80% within 60 days.
  • Keep all certifications and licenses current and renewed by completing continuing education as required.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process and quality instructions).

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

• Working conditions will vary with service work being performed indoors and out in the field.
• Possibility of working in hazardous environments when working within a plant which would require safety precautions and appropriate equipment.
• Ability to work in climatic weather (cold/heat) during day or night operations.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
• Occasional lifting of items weighting a maximum of 55 lbs.
• Ability to climb stairwells up to 15 levels high.
• Ability to ascend and descend ladders (step, extension, cage) up to 24' high.
• Able to walk at a normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes.
• Able to work from a standing position for 8-10 hours.
• Bending, climbing, and stooping as needed for access of equipment to repair and service.
• Pass all test requirements to be approved to work offshore. (If Applicable)
