Job summary

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to support a Naval Nuclear Lab site in Niskayuna, NY with design reviews, commissioning, and life-safety assessments.

You will evaluate passive barriers, sprinkler and alarm systems, review calculations, and ensure integration with building systems while maintaining compliance with IBC/IFC and NFPA standards. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline with a designated fire protection major/concentration.
• Experience over 5–7 years in fire protection engineering.

Responsibilities

• Perform fire protection design reviews for new buildings and renovations per codes and internal criteria.
• Evaluate design of passive barriers, sprinkler systems, and fire alarm systems for performance and compliance.
• Review hydraulic calculations, device spacing, sizing, and system configuration.
• Assess integration of fire protection with other building systems for coordinated response.
• Identify non-conformances and propose practical solutions with project teams.
• Develop or review commissioning/test plans per NFPA standards.
• Witness or perform functional testing of fire protection systems.
• Ensure as-built drawings and narratives are accurate and up-to-date.
• Support ongoing inspections, audits, and process improvements.
