Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to design comprehensive fire protection systems for federal and commercial projects. You will work on water supply analyses, hydraulics, and life-safety systems while ensuring compliance with NFPA and UFC standards.

This hybrid-position offers collaboration with sales and client teams, mentoring of junior staff, and travel as needed to project sites across multiple U.S. locations. Strong design and regulatory knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Developing comprehensive fire protection designs including layouts, basis-of-design docs, water supply and hydraulics.
• Acting as QFPE for federal projects; life safety, fire suppression and alarm analysis and design.
• Reviewing designs for compliance with NFPA, UFC, and local regs; sign off on completed designs.
• Collaborating with sales staff to create proposals and responding to RFPs.
• Performing site assessments to ensure designs meet industry standards and local requirements.
• Mentoring junior staff and potentially supervising engineers on projects.
