Job summary

GBA invites engineering students to join the Fire Protection group in Lenexa, Kansas for a summer internship. Interns gain hands-on experience, work with industry experts, and may rotate through different opportunities to identify their path in fire protection engineering.

Responsibilities include assisting with designs, analyses, site visits, and quality control, while collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams and benefiting from mentorship in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an accredited BS/MS in a relevant engineering field.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher strongly preferred.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office is preferred.
• Completed at least two years of school with extracurricular involvement.

• Assist with designs, analyses, calculations, and models for fire protection systems.
• Assist with site visits to observe construction and system testing.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with preparing designs, analyses, calculations, and models related to fire protection systems, life safety systems, and passive fire protection building features.
• Assist with conducting project site visits to observe construction and witness system testing.
• Follow quality control processes and design standards.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplined design teams.
• Engage in an active learning environment with mentorship from experienced engineers.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring

• Pursuing BS or MS in Architectural Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or another related engineering degree from accredited program.
• 3.0 GPA or higher strongly preferred
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office software is preferred
• Experience with architectural/architectural engineering projects or internships is preferred.
• Finished at least two years of school
• Involved in campus, community, and other volunteer activities and/ or organization
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk around the office for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
