Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Minneapolis, MN is seeking an Assistant Fire Protection Engineer to support the design of multi-discipline fire protection packages including fire suppression, fire alarm, and smoke management systems.

You will assist in calculations, code compliance, and coordination with field teams on diverse projects while contributing to budgets and project delivery. The role emphasizes attention to detail, teamwork, and safety policy adherence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Internship/related consulting experience preferred.
• Knowledge of NFPA standards and building codes a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design, specification, and coordination of fire protection systems.
• Assist in fire protection calculations including hydraulic analysis.
• Assist in evaluating life safety requirements and building codes.
• Assist in construction administration and field coordination.
• Assist in project budgeting and cost estimates.
