Job summary

HED in Sacramento, CA is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join our integrated architecture and engineering team. You will lead fire protection design across schematic to construction documents, perform calculations, and coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and clients.

The role includes mentoring staff, contributing to QAQC, and supporting project delivery with minimal supervision in a hybrid work environment. Strong Revit skills, P.E.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• P.E. licensure required.
• 5+ years in the AEC industry preferred.
• Written and verbal communication skills required.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead design development and calculations for fire protection systems across schematic, design development, and construction document phases.
• Independently perform fire protection design tasks—calculations, equipment sizing, and code compliance checks.
• Prepare technical documentation for fire protection systems, including system descriptions and narratives, specifications, equipment schedules, and redline markups.
• Develop and review fire protection layouts in Revit in coordination with architectural and structural backgrounds.
• Coordinate fire protection with internal disciplines and external consultants to resolve design conflicts.
• Review RFIs and submittals with support from lead engineers and provide timely responses.
• Perform field verification for fire protection conditions and participate in construction observation visits.
• Participate in design strategy discussions and support discipline leads with technical insight.
• Engage in internal QAQC processes and peer reviews for code compliance and drafting consistency.
• Mentor designers and interns in software use, modeling best practices, and calculation basics.
• Participate in project meetings and support agendas, minutes, and follow-up documentation.
