Job summary

Actalent in Bethesda, MD is seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to support a large campus with 50+ buildings. The role offers a hybrid on-site/remote schedule, collaboration with a small engineering team, and opportunities to influence life-safety design and code compliance.

Responsibilities include design review, inspections, NFPA code application, and coordination with authorities. Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of fire protection engineering experience.
• BS degree in engineering.
• Experience applying NFPA codes in design review and inspections.
• Experience with life safety systems on large campuses.

Responsibilities

• Review designs and shop drawings for 50+ campus buildings to ensure code compliance.
• Evaluate fire alarm and sprinkler drawings for NFPA alignment and concerns.
• Conduct construction inspections for fire protection systems and life safety features.
• Issue final occupancy permits after verifying compliance with codes and standards.
• Witness acceptance tests for fire alarm and sprinkler modifications and document results.
• Perform life safety and hazard analyses to identify risks.
• Provide guidance on NFPA codes (NFPA 30, NFPA 35) and life safety requirements.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and campus stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Coordinate with campus fire marshal and authorities to ensure consistent interpretation of codes.
• Utilize Revit, AutoCAD to review and interpret fire protection designs.
• Support permitting by reviewing documentation and preparing input.
• Share best practices to improve campus fire protection programs.
• Mentor other engineers and staff on complex fire protection topics.
