Job summary

Qualifications

• One year of experience in fire protection engineering.
• Or two years structural plan and code review that includes fire suppression systems.
• Needs a bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering or a related field.
• By end of probation, must obtain one of: ICC Fire Plans Examiner (F3) and CFPS; or PE Fire Protection in AZ and ICC Fire Plans Examiner (F3); or ICC Fire Plans Examiner (F3) and 3 NICET Level III/IV certs in two areas.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical assistance to architects, contractors, engineers and other professionals interpreting fire codes and standards.
• Reviews construction site and building plans for conformance with fire protection codes.
• Recommends amendments to national fire codes.
• Reviews Fire Life Safety Reports for compliance with adopted codes and ordinances.
• Determines water availability and delivery sufficiency for protection of buildings.
• Evaluates storage, handling and use of flammable and hazardous materials for compliance.
• Leads cross-department coordination to enforce fire protection codes and standards.

Education

Bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering or related field
