The Opportunity

As a Fire Protection Engineer, you’ll serve as a subject matter expert on fire protection and life safety issues affecting government facilities. You’ll review design and other technical documents for construction activities and operations to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. You’ll identify optimal fire protection solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. You’ll conduct inspections of construction to validate compliance of fire protection and life safety aspects.

Responsibilities
  • Review planning, programming, architectural, and engineering design documents and other technical documents for proposed construction activities.
  • Review and conduct comprehensive fire safety audits, inspections, and investigations of company operations to ensure compliance with fire protections codes and standards.
  • Conduct inspections of new construction and renovations to validate compliance of fire protection and life safety aspects.
  • Witness acceptance testing and commissioning of fire protection systems and equipment to validate functional compliance.
  • Assist with corporate fire protection governance, policy, standard operating procedures, and facility design standards.
  • Attend professional meetings within the government to benchmark industry and other government agencies' approaches.
  • Prepare internal briefings, fact sheets, newsletter articles, and other communications on fire protection and life safety topics.
  • Support data collection and metrics development, and contribute to company records and knowledge management activities.
Qualifications

You Have:

  • 3+ years of experience in fire protection
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering
  • Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) License before start date

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with facility design, construction, and commissioning in fire protection aspects
  • Knowledge of the Unified Facilities Criteria, IBC, and NFPA Codes and Standards
  • Experience in architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering disciplines
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Excellent customer service, verbal, and written skills
  • Graduate of an ABET-EAC Fire Protection Engineering program
  • Completion of the NCEES fire protection engineering exam
  • Registered PE License
Additional Information

Applicants will undergo a security investigation; eligibility for access to classified information is required.

Salary Range: $77,600 - $176,000 annually, depending on various factors.

Work Model: Flexible, with options for remote, hybrid, or onsite work depending on the role.
