A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer (PE) to support major infrastructure projects across the U.S. This is a high-impact role focused on fire protection systems design, code compliance, and hazard mitigation across sectors including power generation, oil & gas, water treatment, and mission-critical data centers.

This position is with a government contractor with multiple locations, state to state. It is a fully remote/hybrid opportunity (depending on proximity to project/client needs) with flexible geographic eligibility—applicants must reside within 50 miles of any major U.S. city to ensure project site accessibility if needed.

• Interpret and apply NFPA, IBC, IFC, and other applicable fire/life safety codes to various project types.
• Develop and review:
• Hazard analyses
• Hydraulic calculations
• P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams)
• Evaluate and approve detailed sprinkler and fire alarm system designs.
• Communicate fire protection design intent to project stakeholders, clients, and local AHJs.
• Coordinate with municipalities to request variances or code exceptions when required.
• Support QA/QC, safety, and compliance initiatives.
• Contribute to internal best practices and uphold design quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• 8+ years of hands-on fire protection engineering experience, including documentation, analysis, and compliance activities.
• Active PE license in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering (required).
• Must have passed the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam.
• Strong familiarity with:

Preferred Skills

• Excellent understanding of fire protection design standards and regulatory requirements.
• Intermediate experience with procurement, constructability, and contract administration.
• Skilled in communicating with diverse stakeholders, city officials, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong project planning, code interpretation, and documentation skills.
• Proven ability to manage project deliverables and schedules with minimal oversight.
• Comfortable working in remote, independent environments with occasional site or client interfacing.
