Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida, with technical support centers in Southeast Asia and East Africa. They provide program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate specializes in planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services supporting the US Department of Defense (DOD) and other US federal agencies globally.

The Fire Protection Engineer will develop design plans and oversee all aspects of fire protection engineering activities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work under the guidance of Design and Project Managers on tasks related to Fire Protection Engineering, including fire protection requirements, equipment, hazards, firefighting, and fire detection and alarm systems (FDAS).
  2. Recommend modifications to SFPE procedures and drawings/design documents. Collect and analyze basic engineering data using established procedures, including routine testing and engineering studies.
  3. Apply sound engineering principles to deliver accurate, timely, and cost-effective recommendations. Perform standard fire protection design tasks such as sprinkler system design, hydraulic calculations, fire pump selection, and system layout.
  4. Review architectural/engineering drawings for compliance with codes and standards, including NFPA.
  5. Research relevant codes and standards to develop alternative methods for code compliance.
  6. Prepare reports, letters, and memos with the assistance of other engineers.
  7. Conduct hazardous materials assessments as required.
  8. Continuously enhance technical and business skills proactively.
  9. Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications for Success
  • Degree in a related field.
  • Licensed Fire Protection Engineer or Certified Fire Protection Inspector preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Ability to deliver complete design packages including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and schedules.
  • Knowledge of local and international fire safety regulations and standards (e.g., UFC, IBC, NFPA, BS).
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, CAD, and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Ability to respond quickly to technical queries.
  • Accurate and efficient work under deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to excel.
