Qualifications

• License Required: California Driver's License.
• Education: High school diploma, GED or equivalent, plus 30 semester or 45 quarter college units in fire science, engineering, architecture, construction technology, building inspection, fire prevention or closely related field.
• Certificates and Training Required: Within 12 months, ICC Certification Fire Inspector I, and California POST CST 832 Module A.
• Within 12 months, complete Fire Inspector 1A, 1B, 1C and 1D courses; ongoing maintenance of certification.

Responsibilities

• Review building plans, site plans, and fire protection system plans for compliance with fire safety standards.
• Conduct field inspections of projects under construction for compliance with approved plans and specifications.
• Enforce fire ordinances and regulations.
• Educate the public on fire safety practices.
