Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in the United States is looking for a Portables Technician who can perform core tasks related to portable fire protection equipment with minimal supervision. You will complete inspections, maintenance, and service work, ensuring quality and compliance with applicable standards.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, 3+ years in the field, and the ability to work independently. NICET I+ is preferred, and a clean driving record may be required for driving roles.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience in the fire and life safety industry.
• NICET Level I or above preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
• Must have a clean driving record and active driver’s license (if driving role).

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, maintain, and service portable fire extinguishers and related equipment independently.
• Complete standard service calls without direct supervision.
• Conduct annual inspections, maintenance, and assist with testing as required.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and company procedures.
• Accurately document services performed, including tagging and reporting.
• Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to customers and supervisors.
• Maintain and properly use tools, equipment, and service vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and supervisors regarding job status and findings.
• Maintain a high level of safety awareness and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Education

The Portables Technician is capable of independently performing core technical responsibilities related to portable fire protection equipment. This role is responsible for completing standard inspections, maintenance, and service work without direct supervision while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and company standards. The technician is expected to demonstrate strong technical competency, reliability, and customer service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and servicing of portable fire extinguishers and related equipment independently.

• Must have a clean driving record and active driver’s license (if driving role).

Other Duties

• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various environments.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
• Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
• Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work for extended period
